It’s neat to keep all of the WordPress files in their own directory.  In particular, it adds to security to store the files in an unexpectedly named subdirectory (not wordpress but something a hacker is unlikely to guess).  However you might actually want the pages to appear in the root directory, as in mysitename.com (not mysitename.com/blog).

Alternative. There is another way to do this…. or perhaps it is to do the opposite – store all of the WordPress files in the root directory but show a different page as the Home page and make the Blog appear in a sub-directory, such as mysitename.com/blog.
